Los Angeles Friends of Tibet helps preserve the endangered Tibetan culture and supports the Tibetan people's non-violent struggle for freedom and justice. We sponsor activities to educate the public, to generate interest and involvement in Tibet and we are active in the national and international Tibet support movement.

Our primary project for 2009 is the production of The Tibet Connection, the only English language radio and Internet news magazine about Tibet.

WHAT WE DO

Since 1991, Los Angeles Friends of Tibet has been Southern California’s strongest voice for Tibet. We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization working to raise awareness about the endangered Tibetan way of life and the Tibetan people’s non-violent struggle for true political autonomy. We are active in the national and international Tibet Support Movement and have raised funds to help Tibetans in exile.

HERE:

  • SPONSORING The Tibet Connection

  • FACILITATING grass-roots action campaigns such as those that have helped to free Tibetan prisoners of conscience

  • WORKING with local groups to organize Tibet-related events

  • OFFERING individuals an opportunity to get involved and make a difference

ABROAD:

We have worked independently and with international aid agencies to support projects in Tibetan exiled communities in the Himalayan region:

  • Clean Water Project (currently underway in Dharamsala)

  • Handicapped Tibetan Children

  • Tibetan Elders Homes

  • Centers that support newly arrived Tibetan refugees fleeing oppression

  • Education for Tibetan Children

  • Housing for Tibetan Nuns

  • Health Education Tools

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Every day, in Chinese-controlled Tibet, 6 million Tibetans endure social and economic discrimination, religious intolerance, human rights violations and torture. Here's how you can help TODAY.

  • Visit our website latibet.org and participate in action campaigns

  • Write to your local government representative and ask them to raise the issue of Tibetan human rights whenever possible.

  • Become a member of Los Angeles Friends of Tibet. Join online at www.latibet.org
